*This Pear & Gorgonzola Salad is so simple to throw together and makes a great appetizer or side dish for any holiday gathering!
Serving a dish that’s stunning and delicious certainly doesn’t need to be a complicated affair.
This salad is a testament to that.
Pears are so very beautiful. Such a shame to chop them into little pieces when their hourglass shape can serve as inspiration for a dish full of texture and layers, all centered around that simple outline.
Any variety of pear will work for this salad but I prefer D’anjou – it’s firm but juicy, and is usually smooth fleshed, not grainy as some varieties tend to be.
The salad itself is basic- slice pears straight up and down leaving each about 1/4″ thick, then arrange on a platter, slightly overlapping each slice.
Top with candied pecans(or walnuts!), crumbles of gorgonzola(blue cheese or stilton would also be appropriate), and then a little drizzle of honey.
That’s it! Simple, but lovely.
I’ll definitely be pulling out this dish for my holiday gatherings this year. Don’t we all need a simple go to when everything is all hustle and bustle? I sure do.
