Welcome To The Kitchen McCabe, a blog based on wholesome recipes, beautiful food and photography.
My name is Kayley. I am a culinary graduate with a passion for making and baking pretty things. I am a Freelance Recipe Developer, as well as a food photographer and writer. I live in a little town at the tip of Northern Utah. I started this blog in 2013 as a way to catalog the recipes I developed. A few of my favorite things are eating late night baked goods, singing Broadway musicals at the top of my lungs, and playing the piano.
My Food Philosophy: Though, as a trained chef, I’ve always found quality of food and ingredients to be important, I’ve been gravitating towards a cooking style that takes into account the nutritional quality of the dishes I make. Though I do not always follow a gluten or dairy free diet, I try to make each recipe I develop a little better for you. I try to completely avoid processed foods and make everything that comes out of my kitchen from scratch(where time allows). The recipes you find on this blog are a bit of a between ground for those who want to cook in a healthier way, but are not ready to go full speed into a more restrictive diet. Though I sometimes use white flours and sugars, I try to incorporate whole grain flours, un-refined sweeteners, dairy free ingredients and vegetarian or vegan dishes.
My work has been featured on: Country Living, The Kitchn, Redbook, The Huffington Post, Buzzfeed , 100 Layer Cake, as well as other online and print publications. I have done work for brands such as Hershey’s, Cake Mate, PediaSure, Rubbermaid, and Silk.
I have done freelance Recipe Development and Photography for: Handmade Charlotte, My Natural Family, Farmhouse Pottery, Vitamix, Dorda
To Work with Me: I am available for freelance work as a food stylist, food photographer, and recipe developer. Please send any inquiries in an email to [email protected]
I’d also love to hear from you if you have any comments or questions!

Hello Kayley!
I came across your delicious recipe for ombre sugar cookies and would like to feature it in a Spring dessert wrap-up post on my blog, Love and Duck Fat (http:loveandduckfat.com).
I will of course, provide a link back to your blog post in text. Would you give me permission to include one of the photos in an image collage as well?
If not, I will still include just the text link. Thanks so much and I hope I can give you some traffic. Have a great weekend and nice to meet you!
Best,
Marni

Hi Kayley! I am new to your blog but I am absolutely loving it! It is so beautiful and all the dishes look fantastic. After reading this about me, I have realized that we both have a similar mindset about cooking and family. Although I am not a professional chef yet, I would really like to be. May I ask where you went to school for your culinary degree, or at least how your experience was? 🙂 Thank you! and I cant wait to read more blog posts!
Best wishes,
Saba

Hi Saba and welcome!
Thank you for all your kind compliments! I really appreciate them! I went to school at a tech college in northern Utah. I loved it, every day was fun and it never felt like school, really. If you love cooking then it’s a blast. We did everything hands on and were able to make about every type of dish out there…so yeah, super fun! I hope you get to go someday, food is a fun industry to be in =)

Your food photos are stunning. Can I ask you where did you learn food photography?
I’m a beginner food blogger as well and would love to learn how to capture such beautiful photos.

Hi Iryna! Thank you so much for the kind words! I am self taught – I would recommend reading a few books on food photography (Plate to Pixel is a great one) and heavily studying the food photographs that you admire. Good luck in your pursuits! xo

Lovely photos and recipes!
My grandmother was Marion McCabe and my protagonist in my Irish novels is named Norah McCabe, in memory of her. I never met my grandmother, but her Irish blood flows strong in me – http://www.cynthianeale.com
P.S. I have my own cookbook, Pavlova in a Hat Box, Sweet Memories & Desserts. I’m not professionally trained, but kitchen schooled in my mother’s kitchen. I write as I bake in my 265 yer old kitchen in New Hampshire…baked goods must have the perfect ingredients and a good story must also have excellent ingredients.
Thanks for your lovely site and work.

Hi kayley,
Your blog and instagram is stunning!
I cook & do food photography too & I know how much work goes into it and you’re definitely one of my favorites!
May i ask what lighting do you use for your photography?
Also, i am a self taught baker for 5 years now. How important do you think attending culinary courses is?
Thank you!
Kayley says
Hi Hamda! Thank you for the compliments! You are so kind. I use natural light for my photography. Culinary courses are helpful, but not necessary =)

Hi Kayley!
I just wanted to pop in and let you know how much I appreciate your range of talents. I’ve had a recipe of yours pinned for quite some time (Balsamic Black Pepper Cherry Glazed Salmon… one of my faves), but never took the time to look through your blog. It’s really fantastic. Some really beautiful food and your photography certainly does them justice. The photo of your Slow-Roasted Tomato and Basil Hummus caught my eye instantly. It’s just so lovely as are many, many others.
Best wishes and I look forward to viewing more of your recipes.
