It’s that time of year again!
Oh yes…cheeseboard time!
As someone who makes cheeseboards for a casual weeknight dinner more often that anyone should ever admit to, partnering with Cabot cheese was right up my alley. With pretty new packaging and a whole slew of lovely cheddar varieties, putting together something worthy of a holiday party(or Tuesday night dinner, whatever your preference) is simple and always, always fun.
Cabot Cheeses are an obvious choice when it comes to putting together a great cheeseboard. Not only do they have a fantastic variety to choose from, and they’re serious award winners, too. Cabot cheeses have swept the cheddar categories for years and years, bringing 37 awards last year alone.
Cabot is a co-operative owned by farm families throughout New England and New York and 100% of profits go back to the farmers.
All Cabot Cheddars happen to be naturally 100% lactose-free, halal and kosher, and naturally gluten free.
I think a good, balanced cheeseboard needs four components:
-
Cheese. Obvs. This is the star of the show. The namesake of the dish. Choose a few good cheeses, each different from each other, and build the board around it. I’m really feeling that Cabot Cracked Peppercorn and always go for a Sharp Cheddar!
-
Bread. That cheese needs a vessel for shoving into mouths. I like to use a crusty baguette. Or some hearty crackers. Either will do. Or both,
-
Fruit. Add as many or few types as you like, but go with the season. Right now that means pomegranate, persimmon, apple and pear.
-
Some kind of sweetener. I love honey. And maybe a fig jam. Cheese and sweet make the world go round.
Now let’s talk about fluff.
You can leave your cheeseboard as is, with the four components listed above. You can also bulk it up and really go to town by adding in extras like olives, nuts, dried fruits, pickles, cured meats, mustards, and if you’re really feeling fancy, a bit of foie gras.
The beauty of cheeseboards is that you can really do whatever the heck you want. Make it over the top, make it minimal, make it your own =)
