Pineapple Orange Banana Juice + Vanilla & Turmeric

Pinapple Orange Banana Juice + Vanilla & Turmeric

Today I have a super simple recipe for you. I know, super simple isn’t exactly an everyday occurrence around these parts, but add a staggering lack of energy to all day nausea and simple is what you get. When I get back to feeling like myself, I assure you the recipes will be nice and complicated again πŸ˜‰

I’m not saying that simple is bad. Simple can be the best. Actually, it probably usually is. And juice doesn’t need to be complicated. I’ve taken a childhood favorite of mine and added a little nutritional superpower and mellow flavor in the form of fresh turmeric and a vanilla bean.

I don’t buy juice. I used to. Until I discovered that even the “100% juice” frozen concentrates and bottled juices were basically sugar water, devoid of the many nutrients they once held. Nowaday we drink juice more occasionally than every day. And if we drink juice, it’s fresh (though I will admit to a bottle of Simply Orange making it’s way into my shopping cart every now and then).

For those of you wondering, I use a Breville Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer and LOVE it. Cleaning juicers is never fun, but I find that if I cleanΒ it as soon as I finish juicing, it only takes 3-4 minutes.

Like I mentioned above, Pineapple Orange Banana juice was one of my favorites as a child. This version is fresh and bright, mellowed by the banana and vanilla and given an anti-inflammatory boost from the fresh turmeric. I find fresh turmeric at my local natural foods market, though you might find it at an Asian supermarket as well.

The addition of vanilla is my favorite thing about this juice. I store my vanilla beans in a big jar of bourbon. When I scrape the seeds from one of the beans, I put the bean back in the jar so that it can infuse what’s left into the alcohol. When I use vanilla for something like this juice, I pull out one of those spent beans, shred it up a bit, and let it infuse what flavor is left into the liquid before disposing of it. This way I really feel like I get my moneys worth for those little beans, which can be quite expensive. I purchase my vanilla beans from Indri Vanilla in bulk. The beans are large and plump, organic, fair trade, and the best price that I’ve found.

Drink this juice within 24 hours! The banana will cause the juice to taste a bit off if left in the fridge too long.

By themselves they just turn to mush, but if you juice them with other fruits or vegetables they blends in nicely.

Try using the vegetables that make up a nice salad meal you have enjoyed for example on holiday or in a favourite restaurant. This is an easy way to create new juice recipes for you, if they are delicious you have found something valuable to share with friends, neighbours and colleagues without spending time researching online.
