My Momma’s Kitchen is a little shop that specializes is homemade jar cakes that are free from artificial flavors/dyes/& preservatives and they so generously sent my their April cake of the month to try out myself!
Well, let me start off by telling you that Aprils flavor of the month was coconut. Sweet, sweet coconut. And these little cakes come baked in jars. I’m a sucker for anything that comes in it’s own jar. You can see the little box it arrived in. The packaging was cute and simple with a lovely little note included from the bakery. How can you get a little box full of bright crinkly paper, a sweet little note, and jarred cake and not be happy?!
The cake itself was amazing. Seriously. I’m not just saying that. I’m a pretty hard critic when it comes to baked goods and this did not dissapoint. The cake was soft and moist and the frosting was not too sweet but just right. The coconut flavor was right on point. But the most amazing thing? This little cake arrived while I was out of town and I didn’t get to open it until it had been sitting around for 5 days. 5 DAYS. Which means that it was 6 day old cake, at best. And it still tasted as if it had just been made. It was still just as soft and moist as a cake could be. Which is awesome, considering that there are no added chemicals or preservatives to make it last longer. It tastes even better than homemade.
The worst thing about this cake? My kids saw me open the package and I didn’t make it to the hall closet in time to gobble it up all to myself. I had to share and that made me sad. But lesson learned. Boxes of cake should be opened in private as they are a personal affair. The kids loved the cake too, by the way.
These cakes make such a cute gift and there are a variety of flavors available. PLUS, for every purchase you make, they will donate a meal to Feeding America. Good cake, good cause, win/win.

How adorable are these, and what a great gift to send to someone too. Your comment about hiding in the closet makes me laugh, I think every mother must use tactics like that sometimes. My secret, I hide whatever I don’t want down in the crisper drawer of my fridge, I don’t even think my kids even acknowledge that the veggie drawer exists, so they never think to look in there. : )
