DIY Brown Sugar Honey Facial Scrub

November 12, 2013 by Kayley 100 Comments

scrub 1

There was a time when I bought all the fancy scrubs and cleansers from the department store. And paid a fortune for them.

A few years ago I decided to give some of the homemade versions a try.

And you know what?

In my personal experience, the homemade products have worked just as well, if not better for me.

Like this scrub, for example.

I used to use a scrub that I paid around $30 a tube for, and I really liked it(the scrub, not the $).

This brown sugar honey scrub works every bit as well, smells 100 times better, and costs 95% less to make.

No joke.

But what I love even more?

Its all natural and toxin free.

Honey(RAW honey, mind you, not what is sold on most grocery store shelves) is amazing. Most honey that you buy in the grocery store has been heated and pastureized, losing its many benefits.

Did you know Raw honey has anti-bacterial properties, as well as anti-viral and anti-fungal?

It is great for healing acne and is also a humectant and draws moisture to the skin, leaving it soft and supple.

This leaves my skin perfectly smooth and soft. I absolutely love it and love what it does for my skin.

The cost doesn’t hurt either.

it also makes a perfect lipscrub for the harsh winters! Use a fine sugar, big chunks are too harsh for your lips. Just apply and lick it of, the licking scrubs it

Merry meet. My question is this: for bulk storage of brown sugar scrubs, what is the best way? Refrigeration? Or symply dry storage? Also, what is the shelf life?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend dry storing it for a couple of days, up to a week. After that, the sugar starts to dissolve. =)

If you don;t have brown sugar, take a mixing bowl and put 2 cups white sugar, 3 1/2 tbls molasses, and mix together well with fork.
if you don’t have molasses, use maple syrup or agave syrup! =)

just used it and it made my skin red-i’m pretty panicked about that 🙁 is there any possibility that i just scrubbed it too hard?

Hi Tal! Possibly. The ingredients aren’t irritants, so maybe you just have sensitive skin?

It’s very likely that you scrubbed too hard. If your skin still feels irritated after about 10 minutes, try putting just the honey on your skin. It’s very soothing. It’s absolutely normal for your skin to be red and a little raw for a few minutes. It’s scrubbing the first layer of skin off so don’t be alarmed.

      Hi Rex!
I would recommend no more than 1-2 times a week, depending on the sensitivity of your skin.

The amounts are based on 1 use. You could make more, but making this fresh each time you use it is best, in my opinion.

One of the best things for KP is Cetaphil Cream. This scrub will help, just don’t do it more than twice a week. Use the Cetaphil twice a day. You will see a significant difference!

What should I do for my face the days I’m not doing the scrub? Just rinse it with water day and night…..? Also I’ve done this once before, it smelled great! But after I washed the scrub off, I put a toner on and then moisturized. For a toner I used rose water and vinegar. For a moisturizer I used a very little amount of coconut oil. My skin felt great! Although do you recommend any other moisturizer?
